Brunnenhansel

This valuable bronze hollow casting is a rare and perfect example from the heyday of bronze casting in Nuremberg in the middle of the 14th century. The “Hansel” fountain statue is the oldest existing sculpture in this craft and is regarded as a technical feat. “Brunnenhansel” previously graced the courtyard of the Heilig-Geist Hospital in Nuremberg, where the water needed in the hospital spouted from openings in his ears and pipe. Portrayed as a young man, he also serves to remind us of the transience of life.
