The Buddha Muchalinda represents a moment in the Buddha’s enlightenment. Deep in meditation, the Buddha was not aware of rising lake waters, sent by a demon to drown him. The Naga serpent king raised the Buddha on his snake coils and protected him with his seven cobra heads.
