This bull, completely simplified in terms of its shape, is reduced to a prismatic block with the intent of capturing the essence of the animal. It belongs to the series Bulls (Toros), the designs for which were still completed in Montevideo, although the majority of them were cast after his arrival in Spain in 1955. It signifies a radical change of direction for Pablo Serrano who parted from more traditional figuration. This demonstrates his command over the schematization and geometrization of shapes, a step proceeding abstraction, recalling the formal simplification of the figure of a bull created by Pablo Picasso in a series of 11 lithographs from 1945. He would resume the theme from 1970 to 1973, creating various additional smaller editions.
