The urn is made of degradable glass, which after 15 years in the earth turns to sand. The urns are invented by the glass artist Annette Krahner who patented her invention in 2006. Her degradable frit slowly decomposes with the help of moist soil. In 2012 she was awarded the prize Female Innovator of the Year by QUIS, a network for women.

The urns are part of the Mats Jonasson Målerås ”Spirit” series of products together with crystal gravestones. The models are named Andandte and Dolce, respectively. Many congregations require sepulchral urns to last no longer than 15 years in earth.
