Bishop Jorge de Almeida's prelacy (1483 – 1543) meant that he provided the Cathedral of Coimbra with pieces that illustrate the diverse artistic trends of the 16th century. This silver, Mannerist holy water vessel employs the language of the Renaissance but, at the same time, breaks with it in a search for unusual and ambiguous effects.
