Rochester is fortunate, perhaps, to be a city of such visual culture. Partly because of this, archives in the area are full of historic images that document the local scene. Rochester's Democrat & Chronicle, a Gannett newspaper, is the last remaining large paper with a long history in the city and with a huge archive of such historic images. For 2010, the paper published a giveaway calendar with photographs from the 1940s through the 1960s. Images include JFK's visit to town during his campaign, ice skating at Cobb's Hill Park, and celebrating the end of World War II.
