  • Description: In this humorous drawing, Forain depicts a prostitute sitting on the edge of a bed, with only a few quickly scribbled lines to indicate that her companion still sleeps in the bed next to her. The gentleman is no foreigner despite the hint of an accent she thought she detected in his voice—he is French and well aware of the going rates. The night will not be as profitable as she had hoped, hence her indignant remark, “Can’t trust an English accent!”
