The Borobudur Temple was built by King Samaratungga of the Sailendra Dynasty in 824 A.D. The temple takes the form of a pyramid and as a representation of the universe. The structure of the temple is made of stones that were donated by Buddhist followers and were collaboratively constructed by the people. Almost two hundred thousand cubic feet of stones were used in the construction, and almost forty thousand cubic feet of them were used to create the multi - level tiers of the stone structure. The majestic temple is adorned with 505 statue of Buddha and 1555 large and small stupas ( domes covering the Buddha's statue). The construction of the this magnificent temple indicated the fact that a thousand years ago Indonesians were already skilled in the field of engineering and had accomplished high organizational skills.
