Cannon with the emblems of Louis XII Side view

Musée de l'Armée - Hôtel des Invalides

Musée de l'Armée - Hôtel des Invalides
Paris, France

Dating back to the reign of Louis XII (1498–1515), this bronze cannon presents the characteristics of a 16th century firearm. It is made up of two sections: a smooth reinforce with the only motifs being the crowned L of Louis XII (1462–1515), and a barrage scattered with fleurs-de-lis. Its breech has no stud, demonstrating the founding method used: the cannon was founded with the opening facing downward.
Graffiti, which dates back to after the firearm was manufactured, decorates the reinforce. The graffiti includes various drawings, accompanied by inscriptions of the names of officers in Hebrew.
