Cannonball Embedded in an Ashlar

24-pound cast-iron projectile embedded in an ashlar from the wall of the church of Santa María in Alicante. This projectile was fired on April 15, 1709 by one of the British ships in the squadron commanded by Admiral Sir Edward Whitaker. The English ships were protecting the troops defending the city's castle from supporters of Philip V during the War of the Spanish Succession.
