The “Hermandad de los Negritos,” (Brotherhood of the Blacks) is a Catholic brotherhood from Seville and was founded circa 1393 by Cardinal Gonzalo de Mena y Roelas in the hospital chapel in Los Ángeles. Until the 1950s, only brothers who were black were admitted to the brotherhood.

The creator of the Virgin is unknown. The canopy procession is inspired by the Eastern tradition, adorned in silver and gold.
