Nossa Senhora da Azinheira Chapel V

The ceilings of the churches, chapels and shrines are, in a way, the architectural representation of heaven, built using the illusion of architectures or gilded woodcarvings. The little boys holding the wreaths and marking the rhythm of the architecture are elements often used in the gilded woodcarvings.
Although the paintings in this chapel are naïf, they are still formal and festive, intended to surprise the observer, an effect achieved through the rich multi-coloured details visible in the urns decorated with flowers.
