Captain Della H. Raney, Army Nurse Corps was the first African American to be accepted into the US Army Nurse Corps as well as the first African American appointed as a Chief Nurse. Raney served at Fort Bragg (North Carolina), Tuskegee Army Air Field (Alabama), Fort Huachuca (Arizona), and Camp Beale (California).
