In 1985, Universal Pictures released Back to the Future, a humorous science- fiction movie that follows the antics of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) as he accidentally travels back in time and unwittingly prevents his own birth by becoming his mother's love interest. The movie spawned two sequels and an abundance of merchandise, much of which focused on the time-traveling DeLorean car, which famously had to reach 88 mph in order to break the space-time continuum. In later movies, the car was fitted with aviation equipment to fly.
