A popular type of card game in the late 19th century was related to the game of Whist, and later, Bridge. These "trick taking" games took many forms, and often were greatly simplified for play by children. This game, Shoot the Hat, is one such children's game. Patterned card faces form two main suits while humorous pictures of people wearing old hats make up one other. McLoughlin Brothers copyrighted this game in 1892.
