Jaime Mota was very young when he completed the higher Piano and Composition Courses with the marks respectively of 20 and 17 (out of 20) at Porto Music Conservatory, in the classes given by Fernando Azevedo and Cândido Lima. With a grant from the Gulbenkian Foundation he studied in Lisbon under Sequeira Costa and Tânia Achot. In 1975 he joined the staff at Porto Music Conservatory, both as a teacher of piano composition and as a piano accompanist.
He played as a soloist and pianist in several orchestras conducted by maestros Silva Pereira, Pierre Salzmann, Gunther Arglebe, Ivo Cruz, Luiz Isquierdo, Borges Coelho, Ferreira Lobo and Meir Minski. He has devoted particular attention to chamber music with piano. In that field and with a grant from the Secretariat of State for Culture he studied at Salzburg Mozarteum under Paul Schillawsky and Erika Frieser. He has performed in concerts and recordings with national and foreign artists in Portugal, Spain, France, England, Holland, Austria, Greece, Germany, Belgium and Brazil.
