Árvore was the target of a «high power» bomb attack in the early hours of January 7th, 1976. The explosion damaged multiple floors, especially the roof. The Coat of Arms of the House had to be removed with a crane, to prevent it from collapsing. The Palácio da Justiça (Court House), opposite to the manor-house, was not immune to the detonation and its stained-glass windows were destroyed. As reported by the Primeiro de Janeiro newspaper, the reason behind the attack could be related to the meetings of the Anti-Fascist Committee of Support to Revolutionary Prisoners (CAARP) held at Árvore on the days preceding the attack. The responsible agents are yet to be identified.
