The CAST series began from a design commission that requested for a glass series, that would launch as a modern design from Japan into the world market. This series was requested to replace Wilhelm Wagenfeld’s Jenaer Glas series, which has been discontinued in Japan due to inevitable circumstances. Similar to Jenaer’s, the material of the product is Pyrex glass, and the bottom is tempered for easy handling. The glass is designed to be convenient to drink from; it is made to be smooth to the touch, and its edges are inclined. These inclined edges have become the major element of the design in the CAST series. The idea of the inclined edges serving both function and form of the design is considered to be influenced by Bauhaus’s ideas. Today, the CAST series, with its origins from Germany, is currently selling in more than 20 countries worldwide.
