"Enric Clarasó (Sant Feliu del Racó, 1857 - Barcelona, 1941) was commissioned this work by Santiago Rusiñol. It was made to be displayed in Cau Ferrat, Sitges, where the artist moved in 1894, along with his collection of old pieces of iron that until then had been kept in the studio both artists had shared in C/ Muntaner, in Barcelona. The sculpture evokes the blacksmiths of the most brilliant period of Catalan forging; therefore, the creators of a large part of the works collected by Rusiñol.
Clarasó depicted the figure wearing a protective leather apron and holding a hammer above the anvil, while looking at the finial he is holding in his left hand."
