Gael Barent is considered the artist of popular celebrations, preferring to paint horse riders' stops in front of an inn or in front of a farrier's workshop. His paintings, which evoke a festive or picturesque village life, are in the vein of Adriaen (1610-1684) and of Isaack van Ostade (1621-1649).
