On the 21st of December, Ceauşescu was speaking to his People in Piaţa Palatului, from the headquarters of the Romanian Communist Party in Bucharest. 100.000 workers had been mobilized for the popular gathering to show their support towards the communist party's policy. A noise interrupted Ceaușescu's speech, a few minutes after its start, and the people booed him. In the minutes that followed, Ceaușescu tried to calm people down. Without success.
