The traveller who has never visited the Alto Douro Wine Region will have an experience of incommensurable impact,
the landscape taking one beyond daily life, delving into an attractive world with a strong sense of place.
The complex history of the centuries transpires and the extreme ability of man’s effort to transform the territory, as well as to dialectically adapt to it (SOEIRO Et. Al., 2002: 163).
In the region of the Cima Corgo (higher Corgo River), where the extensive municipality of Sabrosa is located, we find two types of ‘quintas’ (wine estates) and housing and production facilities.
Ravaged by phylloxera, the region has been home to a high concentration of property. Generally-speaking, estates are isolated, far from the settlements, located on high points, a result of the
concentration of property and the large investment made by wine companies in the 20th and 21st centuries. This exhibition, dedicated to the council of Sabrosa, is an invitation to the visitor to wander through the territory and enjoy this singular landscape.
