The CELA Center is in the former chapel of Virgen de la Luz, which dates back to 1588. In the 19th century, it stopped being used for religious worship and, from 1882, was repurposed as an oil mill with state-of-the-art industrial machinery. The property was acquired by the local government in 2010. In 2019, they decided to dedicate it to art, exhibiting part of the collections of the Charo and Camilo José Cela Foundation in collaboration with Guadalajara Provincial Council.
