Century plant is an agave native to northeastern Mexico. Agaves are succulents, which are recognizable by their thick, waxy leaves and stems that store water. Their deep roots enable them to access underground water supplies. Century plants very rarely flower—it was once thought that they produced their tall flower spikes only once every century
