Ceramic Whorl

Modeled ceramic spindle whorl with a generally spherical body and ten triangular rays attached along the circumference, making the whorl look like a sunburst. Most of the rays show incompletely smoothed joins. Both poles of the whorl are convex, with a central perforation. This spindle whorl was recovered from a habitation area at Pueblo Grande, located east of the platform mound and surviving ballcourt. Pueblo Grande was a large village site located at the headgates of a major canal system occupied as early as AD 500, through 1450. Museum Accession: 1996.17
