A large number of wagons and socket implements decorated with water bird protomes, probably used in a religious context, have been found in Eastern Germany and Western Poland. Two such cult wagons are known from Burg in the Spreewald region, which were purchased by Rudolf Virchow at the end of the 19th Century.
