This is a silvered copper tumi or ceremonial knife portraying a personage who wears a headdress with octopus tentacles and circular ear ornaments, holding a knife and a severed human head. Behind his body two rays or trapezoidal elements extend. He is a beheader related to the octopus, the spider and the owl, all of which are symbolically related to the inner, dark and humid world of the ancestors. In Moche art, gods are represented fighting among themselves or with other human or supernatural beings. These fights usually end in the beheading of the defeated opponent. Decapitation is a mythological theme related to the regeneration of agricultural life in the Andes. (UH)

Este es un cuchillo ceremonial o tumi de cobre plateado con representación de un personaje que tiene un tocado de cabeza con volutas a manera de tentáculos de pulpo y orejeras circulares, que sostiene un cuchillo y una cabeza humana decapitada. Por detrás de su cuerpo salen dos rayos o extensiones de forma trapezoidal. Es un ser decapitador asociado al pulpo, la araña y el búho, es decir, al mundo interior de los ancestros, mundo oscuro y húmedo. En el arte Mochica se representa a los dioses combatiendo entre ellos, o con otros seres sobrenaturales o humanos. Estas luchas terminan en la decapitación del contrincante vencido. La decapitación es un tema mitológico relacionado a la regeneración de la vida agrícola en los Andes. (UH)
