Being one of China’s eminent art forms, calligraphy inspires generations of artists and I am among one of them.
In my career journey, I am fascinated by chair and it has become the theme of my artistic creations. Calligraphy and chair seem to be incompatible elements, in which calligraphy is regarded as two-dimensional virtual imagination while chair is known as a three-dimensional real object. However, the concept of “real” and “virtual” is not necessary the truth - calligraphy is usually presented as a unified art piece and chair is represented as an empty space for people to fill in - this philosophical interaction encourages me for further explorations.
Integrating Ming style chairs and Chinese calligraphy, chairligraphy is generated in the hope that audiences could sense and feel the smoothness and strength of the calligraphic stroke.
