Musée Nissim de Camondo
Paris, France

This Chancellerie tapestry was originally woven for Michel Le Tellier, Chancellor of France from 1677 to 1685. It was then altered for the Marquis d’Argenson, who had his coat of arms added in the corners. The central motif, showing the arms of France supported by two winged figures on a fleur-de-lis patterned background, was inspired by a drawing by the decorative painter Claude Audran III.
