BEBC foundations under construction

1970

CERN

CERN
Geneva, Switzerland

Images taken at the end of January 1970 of the hole (13 m diameter, 20 m deep) in which the foundations for the European bubble chamber were being constructed. The bottom of the shaft was filled with unreinforced concrete, a 8.5 m thick block resting on the molasse rock. This block was to support the foundations proper, which were planned to be finished by May the same year.
