3 piece pantsuit and shirt ensemble
1960
America
By ‘Charisma’
This three piece ensemble includes a pair of high waist and bell bottom trousers and a matching short matador-style vest made from medium weight cotton bold striped seersucker fabric, together with a contrasting blouse made from a light weight striped seersucker printed voile fabric. The vest is lined with the blouse fabric. Large plastic buttons positioned in a double-breasted format give the trousers a ‘sailor pant’ effect. The width of the bellbottoms is 43cm/17”. Pirate style flounces on the sleeve cuffs, round opaque plastic buttons at the cuff and down the shirt front embellish the shirt.

Other information
Seersucker is made by slack-tension weave. The threads are wound onto the two warp beams in groups of 10 to 16 for a narrow stripe. The stripes are always in the warp direction and on-grain. Today, seersucker is produced by a limited number of manufacturers. It is a low-profit, high-cost item because of its slow weaving speed.
Seersucker is a thin, puckered, all-cotton fabric, commonly striped or chequered.
