Charles Morley (1847–1917) served on the Royal College of Music (RCM) Council as the first Honorary Secretary, from the founding of the College in 1882 until 1917. He made the initial contribution upon which the RCM Union was set up in 1906, as 'a Union of past and present students', and further contributed to the beginning of its Loan Fund in 1910, designed to provide financial support to students in their difficult first years in the profession, and in times of illness or distress.
