Cheed is a branch of a particular tree found in the Kumaon region. The branch is buried in the soil so that it can stand straight for a month. The small pieces of cloth tied on the sub branches of the tree are brought from Mathura which is a sacred city in Uttar Pradesh, northern India. The deity Lord Krishna is said to have been born on the site of Sri Krishna Janma Bhoomi.This tradition is only followed by the andit community of the village. It is buried in the beginning of Falgun maah, according to hindu lunar calendar. The holi color are firstly offered to the placed cheed.
