Colorful glazed beads are important family heirlooms and betrothal gifts for Paiwan people. They also represented the social status of the chieftain and nobility. Usually they were stored inside a pottery container and worn only during special occasions. In terms of production techniques, these beads were made similarly to those of Southeast Asia.
