The proverbial wealth and originality of the Peruvian apero is revealed in this pair of box stirrups, one of the oldest known examples of this type. They must have belonged to the boy José Gabriel Souza, whose name remains engraved in the upper part the stirrups. Their delicate neo-classic design enables us to date them to the first quarter of the nineteenth century.
