Once a year the Power House chimney, 30 m high and 2 m across on the inside, has to be cleared of its accumulated soot. This chimney sweeping on a grand scale, carried out during the short period in the summer when the boilers can be shut down for general servicing, was begun this year on Monday, 2 July, and finished some 195 working hours later. Our picture shows the 5-man team from the contractors on their way up the outside of the chimney to begin their job.
