China Service

After a four year White House renovation, the Truman's ordered their official Presidential china service from Lenox in 1951 to coordinate with the new color scheme in the State Dining Room. The pattern included a border of celadon green flanked by an etched gold band and a twenty-four karat gold rim on an ivory body. It included a raised gold presidential seal, surrounded by 48 gold stars.The Presidential china service was first used at a luncheon on April 3, 1952 when Queen Julianna and Prince Bernhardt of the Netherlands visited the White House. The Lenox Company gave the Trumans this set after the presidency to display in the Truman Home dining room.
