Choker made from carved candle coal

Candle coal is relatively simple to sand and carve. Polishing the candle coal gives it a special deep black gloss. During very early periods, coal was processed in this way to form precious and desirable jewellery. The oldest piece of jewellery ever found is dated to around the year 3,000 BC.
