Chop Phulkari Shawl

A phulkari shawl on red ground embroidered with standard phulkari patterns, in varying bands of yellow, pink and purple colours. Called ‘chop’ (or chope), a phulkari shawl on coloured khaddar ground and embroidered in yellow, is usually presented to the bride by her grandmother during a ceremony before the wedding. Chope is always emphasised on the border, having large triangular or pyramid shapes, their bases parallel to the selvage. The body of the chope is usually left plain, or rarely, as in this case, filled with small triangles spread apart.
