Part of an icon from Egypt, with a representation of Christ, painted in the encaustic technique and with inscriptions in Greek script. Although extensively damaged, this expressive work with its restrained colour palate is the only one in Greece representing the earliest phase of Byzantine icon-painting. 7th-8th c. 0.14x0.36 m.
