The Carmo Church was founded in 1586 and played an important part in the Dutch invasion of Salvador in 1624. As the Convent was turned into the Headquarters of Portuguese troops, the fortification was one of the centers of resistance against the assault. After some months, the surrender document was signed in the sacristy of the church.
