  • About the Work: Atelier Morales, the two-artist collective formed by Teresa Ayuso and Juan Luis Morales, work mainly with the medium of photography, focusing on themes of history, architecture, culture and collective memory. Trained as architects, they left Cuba and live in Paris. Clasificación N°3 / Classification No. 3, 2003, from the series Los Bohíos, is a photograph that presents eight houses in a system of organization from a project involving site investigation, classification and documentation of these original and transformed houses that form part of “an abandoned cultural patrimony.” Bohíos is the name given to peasant homes or huts in Cuba since the indigenous people first appeared there centuries ago. Some bohíos still remain on the island, but the majority are being destroyed by people and harsh weather, so this popular tradition of construction is becoming extinct.
