This is the oldest specimen in this museum’s herbarium. Clematis chrysocoma (family Ranunculaceae) is endemic to mainland China and has a woody vine-like form. This species was named by French taxonomist A. Franchet in 1886. He identified the species based on specimens collected by French preacher Delavay on April 1, 1884 in Yunnan Province (collection number 940). This specimen is a “syntype” of C. chrysocoma and was received via an exchange with the Museum of Natural History in Paris.
