Cloak pins

Rijksmuseum van Oudheden
Leiden, Netherlands

These two silver cloak pins were fashioned to represent a proud male goat and a majestic lion. Although they are reminiscent of Assyrian examples, on stylistic grounds they should rather be ascribed to the Achaemenid Period (550-331 BC). Eventually, these strikingly slender pins were probably given to deceased persons as burial gifts.
