Beijing, China

This round, molded copper burner has handles fashioned as trumpeting elephant trunks. The vessel's neck is covered in a light blue glaze and decorated with twelve daisies of four colors—yellow, white, red, and purple. The body is covered in a sapphire glaze and decorated with cloisonné in the design of six interlocking lotus flowers in red, white, and yellow. The bottom of the vessel's body is embellished with lotus petals. The lustrous enamel is subdued, while the enamel color is deep and harmonious. This elegant piece is a masterpiece of Yuan dynasty cloisonné artistry. The copper lining, elephant handles, and base were added later.
