Piece of cloth known as a sampler (dechado) and used by girls for practicing sewing or embroidery techniques. This piece dates from 1842.
It is made of ecru embroidery fabric and has polychrome embroidery in green, pink, red, purple, beige, blue, and brown. The decoration comprises geometric borders, birds, a butterfly, roses, carnations, vases, and pomegranates; in addition it features embroidery of a rooster in a tree, a boat, a crown, the initials I.H.S. (a Christogram), a cat on fretwork, and the initials G.P.I.P.—alluding the owner and creator.
