Mediterranean Sea. Being a symbol is like being an instrument, and being a symbol of truce means being an
instrument that takes part in its own creation. The white flag is based on the design of an
instrument that, in the imagination of everyone who comes across it, is capable of bringing
their activity
to a halt, bringing about a flash of attention and an instinctive inclination towards discovery
and dialogue. The choice of a sail shape is a clear, iconic reference to the theme of travel,
because it is in journeying through space or time that man achieves an Orphic dimension
in his being, venturing towards what is new and naturally taking in any diversity that he comes
across in the world. The object that will take the place of the white flag is a gift offered
to the traveller: the Coexist globe is useful for locating the stars while navigating
and a universal warning that it is essential to seek co-existence between the peoples
of all lands who live under the same sky.
