Hammered silver coin features an image of four horses carrying a quadriga (chariot). "CAESARI" is inscribed at the top and "AVGVSTO" is inscribed at the bottom. Augustus was a Roman statesman and military leader who was the first emperor of the Roman Empire, reigning from 27 B.C.E. until his death in 14 C.E. He ascended to the position of emperor after the murder of his great-uncle, Julius Caesar.
