Coin (gilded)

Early Japanese coins were influenced by the coin culture in China. Some scholars believe that there are six aspects of coin minting that can be found both in Japan and China. These are: the round shape with a square hole, Chinese characters, the name for the year (Baowen), the calligraphy style, the style on the back, and the weight. This demonstrates the general similarities between the two countries’ coins.
