Kushi (a comb) and kogai (a hair pin) were typical hair ornaments of women in the Edo period (1600-1868). This set of hair ornaments is decorated with brightly colored sparrows arching their wings on the black lacquer coating. The design is created using shells and colorful metallic powder.
